October has two birthstones, Tourmaline and Opal.
Tourmaline is a favourite gemstone for many because it is available in a rainbow of beautiful colours. As well as being the October birthstone, it is also the gemstone of the eighth anniversary. Tourmaline is believed to strengthen the body and spirit, especially the nervous system. It is also thought to inspire creativity and was used extensively as a talisman by artists and writers. Opal gemstones are truly unique because each individual gem is adorned with a one of a kind colour combination. In ancient times, the opal was known as the queen of gems because it encompasses the colours of all other gems. Each opal is truly one of a kind, as unique as our fingerprints. Some prefer the calming flashes of blues and greens, others love the bright reds and yellows. As you turn and move the opal, the colour plays and shifts, giving you a gem that can be worn with a plethora of ensembles. The ideal opal is one that displays broad patterns covering the surface in all colours of the rainbow. Be sure to choose the opal that showcases your colour preference and pattern.
