September might be all about back-to-school and that “fresh new pencil case” energy, but for us at Polka it’s also the month of one of our absolute favourite gemstones, the sapphire.
Now, if you instantly picture a deep royal blue, you’re not wrong, sapphires are famous for that velvety midnight hue, but here’s the fun bit: they actually come in all sorts of colours. Pink, yellow, green, peach, even colourless (which makes them a brilliant alternative to diamonds). Basically, sapphires are like the chameleons of the jewellery world, understated when you want them to be, show-stopping when you don’t.
And let’s just take a moment for their backstory. Sapphires have been treasured for centuries, worn by royals and believed to protect against envy and harm (yes please). They’re also seriously tough (second only to diamonds), which makes them perfect for everyday wear. So, if you’re the kind of person who likes your jewellery to have both brains and beauty, sapphires are it.
Here at Polka, we’re spoilt for choice when it comes to these beauties. A few of our favourites right now:
The Mixed Sapphire & Diamond tumbling cluster ring – a little waterfall of sapphires that feels like a party on your finger. Every stone is different, so each one has its own personality.
The Sapphire & Diamond Ring stack– subtle, elegant, and oh-so wearable. They’re perfect for mixing and matching, or for that one-and-done moment when you just want a hint of colour.

Our Sapphire stud earrings– the kind of piece that works with jeans and a white shirt and a little black dress. They’ve got that relaxed luxury vibe we all secretly (or not-so-secretly) love.
And let’s not forget the Pastel Sapphire & Gold pendant– a pop of delicate colour that makes any neckline a little more interesting.
So whether you’re a September baby, an anniversary celebrator (45 years? Hello sapphire!), or just someone who wants to add a little bit of “queen energy” to your jewellery box, sapphires are always a good idea.
Pop into our Exeter shop or have a browse online – we’d love to show you the many moods of this brilliant stone.
After all, if September’s about new beginnings, why not start with a sparkle that’s made to last?
