In 1993 Tanja undertook a traditional jewellery making apprenticeship at Pforzheim Goldsmithing School, and followed this with a two year placement with Peter Haarstick, a well known German jewellery designer. In 1997 she studied for an MA at Sheffield Hallam University, which broadened her understanding of jewellery and introduced a conceptual approach to her work. With the help of the Crafts Council and the Prince’s Trust Tanja established her own studio in Britain and her work is now shown both nationally and internationally.
Her work is very diverse and one range will be very different from another – for example her ‘organic series’ are like mini, wearable sculptures while her ‘dream structures’ draw inspiration from architectural forms. However, all her pieces share a certain sense of mystery and ambiguity of function and like so many forms in nature are a pleasure to see and touch.
